Torfaen District shooting competition will take place on 9th March 2019, at 1st Pontnewydd Scout HQ, Fields Avenue, Pontnewydd, Cwmbran, Gwent, NP44 1RS.
The competition is open to all Scouts, Explorer Scouts, and Young Leaders in Torfaen.
To enter the competition, a troop representative must complete a Troop Booking Form. This will need to be completed, and with £3 per shooter sent to Gareth Davies before Saturday 2nd March. Permission to Shoot and Health forms will need to be brought to registration by the entrants at their allotted time.
Please note that leaders, although more than welcome to attend at any point in the day, are not required for members of your Scouts troop to participate. There will be more than enough adult members at the range to look after the young people and maintain ratios.
Once all Troop Booking Forms are in, each scout will be issued a 40-minute slot for entry via the Troop representative’s email address. Specific time requests will be accommodated where possible, but no guarantees will be made. The time will be split as follows:
- 10 minutes – registration & paperwork check
- 10 minutes – safety brief
- 20 minutes – SHOOT!
2 classes of shooters will be competing – under 14s and under 18s. Prizes for each category will be presented at the winners’ troop / unit meetings as soon as possible after the event, since not all participants will be at the venue at the same time. Winners will be announced on Facebook and troop / unit representatives’ email.
The competition will involve shooting at a practice target (up to 5 shots, standing) followed by 5 shots at a competition target (standing). The practice target allows shooters to ‘get their eye in’ for the competition target, and may also be used in the event of a tie-break situation.
In a change to previous years, all shooting will be standing this year, as the level of skill shown in previous years has shown the prone portion of the event to be of little challenge to the majority of shooters!
